As A Child , I Spent many HOT summer days In Gourdon. My Aunt Phylis (Phylis Moncur)lived at "Gowan Lea" at the top of Brae Road (across from the lighthouse !).
My Aunt Isa Lives there now .
Thirty Seven Years later ! , I'm still going to buy that lighthouse (If I win the lottery , That Is !!).

Sandra Laws put me on to your website. I am a New Zealander living and working in Australia but my mother's family are from the Shetlands and I have a strong sentimental attachment to the harbour towns along the coast around Gourdon. I have spent time in your lovely region on two occasions and it is lovely to see the charm of the area captured in your paintings. I particularly like the ones that feature the small boats as my family were involved in the fishing—and the whaling—before they came out to New Zealand. When I first came over and saw the size of the waves as I was crossing to Lerwick on the ferry, I found it deeply moving to consider the bravery of all the people in the area who make or have made a living from the sea.

Your site brought back many happy memories of holidays spent with my relations, Ethel & Alec Ritchie (Bridge End). Alec and his nephews fished from the 'Whispering Hope'

Great website. My folks have a holiday house in Gourdon for some years now and it is easily a home away from home. My best memories are fishing the Bervie Water, walking along the coast to Johnshaven and the fish suppers (nuff said).
